Just read up on The Venus Project. The idea is really amazing. I'm not going to explain it here, those of you who wanna know, google is god, wikipedia is the godess. However, i'm going to bring up some points that really got me thinking.
We live in a society which is ruled by cash. Money is everything. from basic utilities to luxury goods. Think, for a momment, where a society exsists where cash is not used. everything sustains itself without the environment being harmed. wouldn't that be great?
to acheive this, humans must improve technology to the max. for example, energy efficient circuits and cars. where they use 100% of the energy supplied by fuel. Imagine, if this is achieved. it will be like breathing air. the amount of money that we might have to pay is insignificant, or even free.
However, there is a conflict of interests. Those oil compaines which rake in millions per year will lose money.As such, the principle is that scarcity makes profit. more demand, less materials, more profit. Thus, these companies will stop at nothing to see the advancement of technology retarded or even halted. Isn't it strange, that nowadays lesser and lesser inventions are being invented. In my opinion, it's not that there are less brilliant minds around. it's just that things that are deemed non profitable are not put into much consideration by the older generation. All they have on their minds are elitisim, money, power.
Thus, let's hope our generation or those to come can make a difference in this dying world, else humanity heads downhill.
